Ron Sowden, owner and CEO, started Dekora with co-founders Barbara Rae and John Carter in 2003. A veteran of the British Columbia film industry with over fifteen years’ experience in set decorating, Ron has a keen understanding of how interior design affects an audience, and how it tells the stories of the people who live in the space. One of the founding instructors in set decorating for Capilano University’s Professional Film Studies program, Ron is an arts graduate of UBC, with a post-graduate diploma in marketing.

Jeff Goth is DEKORA’s Alberta Branch Manager. Jeff studied interior decorating at Mount Royal University and branched out into the design field with Pottery Barn prior to joining DEKORA when we opened in Calgary in 2008. Jeff’s earlier background was in the field of education. He was previously a teacher and learning consultant for over twenty years, including a year living and teaching in Japan.
Our Style Team are a talented group of creative individuals whose varied backgrounds bring a wealth of skills and experience to DEKORA. Together they include interior designers, stylists, painters and photographers, even a performance artist: Kirsten Kennedy, Carol Kamis, Carol Nickel, Judy Levey, Dean Mackedenski
Michaela Marchand and Allyson Cathcart are our Sales and Marketing
Consultants in Calgary, and are an ideal complement to one another. Michaela began her relationship with DEKORA
as our customer, when she came to us to stage homes built by her family
construction enterprise. Her depth of
building industry and real estate experience is a valuable asset to DEKORA
customers today. Originally from Nova
Scotia, Allyson joined us in 2012
and brings an outstanding background in business development and marketing to
assisting her DEKORA clients.
Keeping the wheels turning and systems humming each day are our Office and Administrative Team – Project Coordinator Sharon Yanko is our multi-talented person managing communication and the moving parts of day-to-day workflow. As a seasoned design professional, Sharon is an essential support to our style team as well. Tina Nixdorf is our Inventory Specialist, bringing her incomparable sense of style to DEKORA. Cyndi and Cathy wear many hats in their supporting roles both in the office and out in the field. Aaron (not pictured) covers both Calgary and Vancouver as our IT Manager, in charge of our amazing technical systems, computer/server networks and online inventory tracking.
Our business involves a LOT OF STUFF – millions of dollars’ worth of furniture and décor – and it is always moving… in and out of our warehouses, our customers’ homes, on and off our fleet of trucks. We are so fortunate to have a fantastic group of people dedicated to making it all happen – safely and on time – every day. Leading the team since 2012 is Operations Manager Darren Bates, with Ben, Sarah, Hardeep, Evan, Salvatore, Sara, Andre and Owen.
