At DEKORA, we’re not exactly big followers of the latest trends. We’re much more about real style, which is an ever-evolving discipline, and not what you’d call trendy. That being said, we are constantly tuned in to what’s new in home fashions– after all, changing tastes are constant, and part of what fuels our passion is keeping a finger on the pulse of the design world!
On a recent trip to London, our intrepid Jeff Goth paid a visit to one of that great city’s retail institutions– Harrods. Historically a rather conservative place, they’ve evolved and today, they are very much a style leader and have recently introduced furniture to their retail mix, plus bespoke interior design and home styling services. (Are they copying DEKORA? ????) With their fresh take on this new-for-them segment, Harrods has done a great job of zeroing in on what’s new, now– particularly in colour trends. They pinpoint two: rich, berry reds and deep, verdant greens. We are seeing these two-colour themes a lot recently, and would add two more to the list: vivid blues and mustard yellows. Colour, in short, is a hot trend and getting bolder, which is another aspect that Harrods points the finger at– bold mixing and matching of colour, in some pretty eye-popping ways!
Other evolving trends right now include metals and textures. Metallic finishes have been growing in every direction for some time now– brass (both polished and burnished), steel, copper, and now rose golds. In fabrics– velvet is having a major moment right now in upholstered furniture, particularly in those punchy colours (see above)!
Now, we’re off to October’s High Point market in High Point, North Carolina. High Point is the largest furniture trade market in the world, and definitely the place to see what’s coming next! We’ll be taking it all in and selecting new finds to refresh our own style.
